In order for women to achieve pay equity in the workplace, an employer should measure the wage value of a job by evaluating the job responsibilities, skills and effort to arrive at fair or equal pay. -- Fact

What is Pay Equity?

Pay Equity is equal pay for work of equal value or comparable worth.

Equal pay law now covers only jobs with exactly the same job title.  It does not cover women who work in jobs predominately held by women and/or minorities.  Therefore, to achieve pay equity an employer should measure the wage value of a job by evaluating the job titles' responsibilities, education and effort required to arrive at fair or equal pay.  To better understand the issue of Pay Equity, the Women on the Job Task Force developed an Equal Pay Power Point Presentation for anyone who would like more information.  Home
