Charlotte  Shapiro

Charlotte Shapiro has been an educator and activist in the field of community organization for more than thirty years, as an educator, social services program administrator, pay equity specialist and lobbyist.   Prior to her co-founding Women on the Job on Long Island, she directed a legislative task force for the Coalition Against Domestic Violence.   Ms. Shapiro’s first career was teaching social studies in the high school. Over the years, she has also held positions as president  and board member in the League of Women Voters in Nassau County, New York State and Southbury, Connecticut.

Among Ms. Shapiro’s  publications on pay equity are Women on the Job’s manual,   "WORKING FOR PAY EQUITY: A Blueprint for Local Community Action” and the  "Practical Guide to Women's Job Rights."  Her article on the history of Long Island’s pay equity movement is in “Long  Island Women: Activists and Innovators,” (Hofstra University, 1999).
