THE WOMEN ON THE JOB TASK FORCE
The Women on the Job Task Force includes more than 50 civic, fraternal, business, labor, professional, and religious groups on Long Island, united in their mission to advance women’s equality in the workplace. Because women still earn less than their male counterparts, may experience gender discrimination, and hold fewer managerial and executive positions in business and government, the Task Force coalition was established in 1983 to add “force” and volume to our public voice. Task Force organization members “spread the word” to approximately 2,000 to 3,000 working women.
Current Projects of the Women on the Job Task Force
- Advocating for Pay Equity Legislation in New York State and in Congress
- Participation in National Equal Pay Day activities and publicity follow up in a continuing education role.
- Provide help to women so that they can overcome barriers to training for nontraditional occupations
- Work with public health nurses to achieve equal pay with male food inspectors
- Work to increase the number of women on corporate boards
