Take Action for Equality
Women on the Job and its Task Force member organizations work together to educate and advocate for women's employment rights. Below is a brief summary on some of the ways you can be a part of our mission. For more information about how you can help, contact us.
Update for Labor Day 2006
In honor of Labor Day last year, Women on the Job participated in a petition urging the Fortune 100 Companies to do an Equal Pay Self-Audit to ensure that they are paying their employees fairly. This simple evaluation helps employers who want to do the right thing. The 10 Step Equal Pay Self-Audit for Employers was developed by the Department of Labor and adopted by the National Committee on Pay Equity.
Women on the Job supported this petition because of our mission to achieve pay equity. Employers can help to close the wage gap in men’s and women’s earnings by making sure that their salary, hiring, recruitment and promotion policies are fair and legal. We look to the Fortune 100 Companies to pave the way so that all companies will follow their lead to establish fair pay practices for all of their employees. On Equal Pay Day, April 19th, Women's Prerogative sent this petition to Labor Secretary Elaine Chao with over 600 signatures on it! They will continue to update the list of signatories. To be a part of the campaign, go to Women’s Prerogative. Women’s Prerogative will seek responses from the Fortune 100 companies and will publish those results on their website.
Women on the Job urges you to submit your name to the online petition in honor of this Labor Day and also see Labor Day 2007 to explore other ways you can "take action for equality".
WOMEN'S EQUAL EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS: QUESTION THE CANDIDATES BEFORE THE NOVEMBER ELECTION
“If You Don’t Ask, They Won’t Tell” is just one way of pressuring lawmakers to enact legislation. Some other methods used by the Women on the Job Task Force includes writing personal letters, meeting with legislators in their offices, distributing literature at key community locales during National Equal Pay Day, public education with Women on the Job’s power point program and continually adding community organizations to join NYSPEC.
